What we collect
Your email address, to sign you in and send the emails you asked for (sign-in links, reports, the weekly review). Chess usernames you submit, and the publicly available game data attached to them (moves, clocks, ratings, results), fetched from the official public APIs of Lichess and Chess.com. Technical basics: server logs with IP addresses, kept briefly for security and debugging.
What we never collect
No payment details (billing is entirely handled by Substack and its payment processor), no passwords (sign-in links only), no tracking pixels, no advertising cookies, no sale of data to anyone, ever. The only cookie is the session cookie that keeps you logged in.
Scouting and third-party usernames
Opponent scouting analyzes games that players have made public on their chess platform, retrieved through that platform's official API. We display only what those profiles publish (including self-reported names or titles, marked as such). We do not attempt to link online accounts to real-world identities.
Where data lives
Data is stored on servers we rent in the European Union. Emails are delivered through Resend. Subscription status is checked against the billing processor used by our newsletter (Stripe), by email address only.
Your rights
You can request a copy or the deletion of everything we hold about you (account, reports, cached games) by writing to [email protected] from your account email. Deletion is processed within 30 days. Unsubscribing from the weekly email is one click in the email itself.
